Dopamine Serum Levels and Correlation with Lymphocyte Numbers in Sheep Infested with Mange in AL-Najaf Government

Abstract
Mange is a significant parasitic disease in sheep, characterized by severe skin irritation, systemic inflammation, and immune dysregulation. This study explores the relationship between dopamine serum levels and hematological parameters, particularly lymphocyte counts, in sheep infested with mange in AL-Najaf Governorate. Thirty-five sheep were included, with 25 mange-infested and 10 healthy controls. Dopamine serum levels and hematological parameters, including white blood cells, lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, red blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit , mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, red cell distribution width, platelet count, and mean platelet volume, were analyzed. Results revealed significantly reduced dopamine levels in mange-infested sheep (0.5692 ± 0.02921 ng/mL) compared to controls (0.8493 ± 0.02903 ng/mL, P < 0.0001). Leukocyte parameters were markedly elevated in infested sheep, with higher WBC (2.122 ± 0.2100 103/µL) and LYM (1.361 ± 0.1654 103/µL), indicating an immune response. Conversely, RBC, HGB, and HCT values were significantly reduced, reflecting anemia, while RDW was elevated, indicating anisocytosis. Platelet parameters, including PLT and MPV, were significantly increased, suggesting enhanced thrombopoiesis and activation. These findings demonstrate the systemic impact of mange infestation on hematological and neuroimmune regulation, highlighting dopamine's potential as a biomarker for immune and stress responses in parasitic infections.
