Listeria Species Isolated from Animal Origin Food and Its Susceptibility to Antibiotic and Biofilm Formation

Soha Ahmed, Ayman M. Kamar, Helmy A. Torky.

Abstract
Listeriosis is an extremely dangerous food-borne infection that happens when consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeriosis therapy consists primarily of intravenous antibiotics in combination with supportive care. Over 60 years, antibiotic-resistant bacteria have grown. The purpose of this study is to determine the pathogenicity of the isolated listeria and its antibiotic resistance and the possible causes of this resistance, biofilm formation and trials to overcome this biofilm formation. To achieve this aim, isolation of Listeria was done according to ISO 11290, biochemical confirmation, conventional PCR for detection of virulence genes of the isolated bacterial strains, antibiotic resistance by disk diffusion test, detection of biofilm formation and combating biofilm.

Key words: Listeria , monocytogenes , virulence , hlyA , prfA , ALOA , antibiotic , susceptibility , Biofilm , Food
