Abstract
This review provides a comprehensive overview of the Arabian horse, emphasizing its origin, characteristics, racing performance, and genetic evaluation. The Arabian horse is one of the oldest and most influential equine breeds, originating from the Arabian Peninsula and shaped by harsh desert conditions and selective breeding by Bedouin tribes. These factors contributed to the development of unique morphological, physiological, and behavioral traits, including superior endurance, efficient metabolism, and high adaptability.
Key performance traits such as race time, speed, earnings, and morphological measurements are discussed as essential indicators of racing ability. The study highlights the influence of both genetic factors (e.g., strain, coat color, sex, and conformation) and non-genetic factors (e.g., age, training, nutrition, and management) on performance outcomes. Furthermore, the review examines fundamental genetic parameters, including heritability, variability, genetic correlations, and breeding value, which are critical for designing effective breeding programs. The integration of these parameters enables accurate evaluation of performance traits and supports genetic improvement strategies.
Overall, this review underscores the complex interaction between genetics and environment in determining racing performance and provides a scientific foundation for enhancing selection and breeding practices in Arabian horses.

Key words: Arabian horse, Racing performance, Genetic parameters, Heritability, Morphological traits, non-genetic factors.
