Ameliorative Effect of Chlorella vulgaris and Probiotic Supplementation Against Fipronil-Induced Renal Toxicity in Broiler Chickens

Abstract
Fipronil (Fip) is an insecticide that can be used in agriculture, general condition management and pest control of various cereal crops. Fipronil produces harmful effects on the kidney and causes nephrotoxicity through oxidative stress. So in relation to this, our examine was primarily designed to investigate the ameliorative effects of Chlorella vulgaris (Chlo) and probiotics (Pro) supplementation against fipronil renal toxicity in broilers. 105 Ross broiler chicks one-day old were divided into seven groups, each group was divided to 3 replicates with 5 chicks. The first group (Control) was fed on basal diet alone, the second group was fed on chlorella vulgaris (20 g/kg) diet, the third group was fed on probiotic (0.5 g/kg) diet, the fourth group intoxicated with fipronil (4.5 mg/kg bwt( diet, the fifth group was fed on chlorella vulgaris and fipronil, the sixth group was fed on probiotic and fipronil and the seventh group was fed on chlorella vulgaris, probiotic and fipronil. All seven groups received the treatment for 35 days. Fipronil decreases the (body weight and weight gain) and make elevation in the feed conversion rate (FCR%). Fipronil intoxicated group has a remarkable increases in creatinine, urea, uric acid, renal malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and decreases in renal catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. Histopathological examination of the kidneys showed extensive renal tubular degeneration and necrosis with congestion in the renal blood vessels. Concomitant supplementation of chlorella vulgaris or probiotics with fipronil led to very good development in the measured parameters compared to the fipronil-intoxicated group. Dietary chlorella vulgaris or probiotics is recommended for its protective effect against fipronil which make renal toxicity in broilers.
